Dr Khan is a physician in Newcastle and he challenged us to create a welcoming, yet professional space for his surgery. We used complimentary tones of blue and orange, offsetting them with natural planted elements and genuine walnut timber cladding. The lines are clean and edgy, matching Dr Khan's meticulous personality, but the careful colour choices encourage feelings of joyfulness (orange) and instill a sense of serenity (blue). Based on several experimental studies, the presence of plants indoors has been found to be psychologically helpful in interiors as they improve your sense of wellbeing - thus being an obvious choice for an interior designed for the sick. We included a wonderful vertical planted wall and planter boxes with fully grown trees in the hallway to connect the unwell visitors with nature, so hopefully Dr Khan's patients will feel better before they leave the waiting room to enter his office for treatment.
