The 4th Street house is the first of a cluster of three houses. The concept of the cluster is essentially a series of interlinking courtyards that differ in mood or ambience and function. Courtyards have a natural cooling effect on buildings and all the internal spaces are either directly or visually linked to an outdoor courtyard, thereby impacting the interior. The central court is the largest and connects the three houses; it is densely treed so that privacy is maintained between the homes. It leads into the Main House’s pool court which is the most social area of the home. The smaller houses have their own private courtyards that are not visible from the main house.
