The renovation of House Cowie was a complex undertaking as the house has heritage status. It was designed originally by Gordon Leith a contemporary of Sir Herbert Baker in the late 1920s. The house suffered a fire in the 1970s and has undergone various renovations throughout its history. It  is set in a beautifully landscaped garden on the original stone foundation and boasts a picturesque old brick entrance facade, which is also part of the original design. Our initial concept for the house was to extend it with a completely different, architectural language to differentiate clearly between the old and the new. We designed the required living and bedroom extensions in glass and steel set out in clean contemporary lines. Regrettably, the proposal was adjusted into a more conservative design. However, the end result is still a comfortable family home that meets the clients' requirements.
